It is predicted that the UK needs about 300,000 new homes every year for the foreseeable future, to tackle the housing shortage. In Scotland, expansion is being driven by the Scottish Government’s target to build 50,000 new affordable homes by 2021
- Housing Minister Kevin Stewart said: “We are working to increase the number of homes across Scotland so that everyone has a good quality home that they can afford and that meets their needs. We will spend over £3 billion to deliver at least 50,000 affordable homes, of which 35,000 will be for social rent, by March 2021. This builds on the achievement of exceeding our previous target to deliver 30,000 affordable homes by 2016″
- 10,650 new construction workers be will needed to meet demand because of an ageing workforce, in particular for supervisors, logistics and civil engineers in the trade.
