Hi, it seems to be a common theme that we are hearing that there is a skills shortage in the U.K. Oil & Gas sector though when sending C.V.\’s to companies working there you don\’t often even receive a reply. Another often used statement is that you don\’t have offshore experience, even though I have worked on Tug Boats and Supply vessels. How are we supposed to gain experience on an installation if no one is willing to give you a go. I have been working in Engineering for some 29 years now and time served, and back then there was a shortage of Apprenticeships which I think is now affecting the industry onshore aswell. I recently went and renewed my Survival certificates etc. but I am now beginning to wonder if I have made a mistake. I know I am capable of doing the job and from being at Sea I know what it\’s like to be somewhere you can\’t just walk away from I would just love the chance to get out there and do my job which I enjoy.
Thanks for your comment – hopefully the UK and Scottish governments and the industry are starting to address the problem.
