UK Driving Licence Paper Counterpart To Be Abolished – 8 June 2015
Did you know that from 8 June 2015 the paper counterpart driving licence will be abolished ? (For existing driving licence holders in England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland drivers will not be affected).
The counterpart driving licence was introduced to display driving licence details which could not be included on the photocard driving licence, including some vehicle categories you are entitled to drive and any endorsement/penalty points.
Drivers Who Hold Photocard Driving Licences – What The Changes Mean For You
If you hold a photocard driving licence and a paper counterpart, your paper counterpart driving licence will no longer have any legal status after 8 June 2015. You should destroy your paper counterpart driving licence after this date and only retain your photocard driving licence.
From 8 June 2015 any new penalty points (endorsements) and vehicle categories will be recorded electronically. This information will be held on your DVLA driver’s record which can you can access online, by phone or post .

If you are one of the 7 million people who still hold a paper driving licence, paper driving licences will still be valid after 8 June 2015 and should not be destroyed. It has never been mandatory for drivers to replace their paper driving licence with the photocard licence and this remains unchanged.
